My photo
Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

Wacky taters

I planted two types of potatoes.
One behaved as it should.
It grew, it flowered, it died back,
and I dug the potatoes up.

The other one,
from memory Toolangi Gold,
has happily kept growing and is now flowering.

I have bandicooted around the plants
and it has produced some good sized
tubers.

I am sick of waiting.
I am going out to dig them up...
as soon as this rain stops!

  1. Good that you are getting them out because with all the rain they would have turned out scabby. Not nice! That's what happened to mine... too much water and nasty scabby spuds.

  2. Are you sending more rain our way?

  3. Hi Hazel
can you tell us in what gardening zone you live. I live in the sub-tropics so don't think I can follow many of your gardening practices... BUT that is not going to stop me reading your posts and enjoying them.

    1. Hi Lydia La La (nice name)
Hazel's garden would be in a USDA Zone 9b. In Australian terms it is Temperate although I also look at planting guides for Cool areas.

  5. Sounds like a movie title "Toolangi Gold; the spud that refused to die..."

  6. Hope you get lots of potatoes! It is raining here again today too. It likes to rain a lot in the spring but then in the summer we just dry right up.

  7. Potatoes with a mind of their own, that don't behave as expected. Should be more of it.
Hope you get a good harvest.
