Here are a few trees that will be
going, going, gone from
the garden in the future.
First a large ornamental weeping cherry.
It is only 'fabulous' for one week
in Spring...and doesn't do a great deal
in Autumn.
It also has a nasty rotten bit in the middle.
Second: a russet maple
This has been badly pruned
and is really only half a tree.
Third: cheek and jowl with the russet maple
is a wattle. One of the few natives in the garden.
It is quite pretty but hangs out over the drive
and I have to keep chopping it back.
Fourth and final: A weeping pussy willow,
that reminds me of, Cousin It!
When in leaf, it isn't that attractive
and without leaves it is just a mess.
It too has been badly pruned and is a disaster
underneath. It also puts up suckers.
The other reason these trees are going
is they are taking up valuable room
and I think I could fit
about six fruit trees in their places.
Oh definately, go the fruit trees for sure...you need to look at the garden from a strangers point of view sometimes dont you, things that you are so used to seeing all the time become invisible,,,Im forever looking in other peoples yard thinking to myself, oh, I would get rid of that, and that...but really, I need to do it in my back yard more!!!!
ReplyDeleteAs the saying goes....'look in your own backyard".....
ruthless!
ReplyDeleteyeah i'd choose fruit trees over ornamental anyday..what fruit trees are you thinking about?
ReplyDeleteOh I love pulling down trees that make no contribution!
ReplyDeleteWhat trees will you get? We put another fruit tree in this weekend! Although I didnt realise that the Mariposa plum needs a Santa Rosa for cross pollination! You dont happen to have one that I can use to graft onto my Mariposa do you?!
Alright! I love a bit of destruction. Is the cook going to whip out her chainsaw? And what are you going to put in??? I adore a good fruit tree!
ReplyDeleteHave you got apples and pears?
Remove and renew - a fine policy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference it will make in the look of your place. Big decisions, but fantastic results.
