My photo
Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

Me, me...I'll do it!

I think I may have to learn to sit on my hands...
to stop me for volunteering for anything else.

I am still doing a couple of mornings at the school
and working in the op-shop on Fridays
but Iwhat I am most excited about is that I am doing some volunteering with

Sustainable Gardening Australia was established in 2003. We are a not-for-profit, non-government organisation dedicated to changing the way Australians garden.

SGA is totally committed to achieving real, continually improving and easily understood environmental solutions for gardeners.

The project I am working on,
with three other delightful volunteers is locating and
helping to prepare about six gardens in the inner west of Melbourne
for a Sustainable Gardens Open Day later in the year.
(Hey, Veggiebobbler, do you know anyone down your way?)
The focus is not on 'show gardens' but on
attainable sustainable gardens with ideas and practices
that anyone could have a go at.

I will let you know more as the project develops
and it would be a great opportunity for
a Melbourne Bloggers' Big Day Out, when the time comes.

As the name suggests, SGA is an Australia wide program
so c'mon all you Aussies, check out their web-site
for all sorts of interesting information and to have
their newsletter delivered to your in box.

There is a down side to my involvement in
this project though...I will have to
meet with the other volunteers and Tracey from SGA
at my favourite nursery....oh dear!

  7. When I retire, I want to do something like that. I'd like to work with a school, to get kids interested in growing their own food.

  8. Ooo you are forbidden to meet up and have fun without ME!!! You can meet up if you don't have fun though.

I love a bit of volunteering, and volunteering in the garden sounds like heaven Hazel... interesting to see how much money you end up spending in the nursery though... I have a feeling that volunteering is going to cost you!

  9. SGA has lots of great information in its newsletter and on its website and I refer to it regularly (thanks to Hazel's recommendation some time ago)
Hazel it is wonderful to visit the vegie garden and chook shed that you developed at the school you taught in for many years. It is fantastic that they now will be part of the Stephanie Alexander scheme.
SGA are very lucky to have you on board as a volunteer!
