This is a green manure mix I planted...ummm...for green manure.
I have left it a little long and it is forming seed heads.
So now I have a crop of staples...wheat and oats.
Makes me think I could plant some just outside the fence at the back for the chooks.
I could have sworn I planted leek seeds here.
It isn't as if their seeds are hard to tell apart.
I am in good company though.
Even Mother Nature makes mistakes sometimes.
That looks very much like corn.
ReplyDeleteCan you still dig in green manure when it is fruiting?
ReplyDeleteI think it takes extreme talent to plant leek and come up with corn. I also have this talent Hazel, I would even venture so far as to call people such as ourselves gifted.
ReplyDeleteDo I understand that you are going to harvest the wheat and oats? If so please blog about that as I am very interested. Grains are something I have never played with.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed! You have a wheat field in your garden :) Mine is much smaller ans grows around the base of the bird feeder.
ReplyDeleteAnd, erm, yeah, that looks like corn - can you do the water/wine trick too? ;)
Mo
Sowing Leeks and harvesting them as Corn is surely an example of "Upcycling" - making something you already have into something better! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Brewster feather! Pity Brewster still looks ugly!
ReplyDeleteSuch talent! Looks like corn to me! I tried the green manure crop but the hens ate it all :( Take some close up pics !
ReplyDeleteLove that tomato Hazel! You can have fun and take creative photos of it before you eat it :)
ReplyDeleteHi Hazel, just a thought, but your plant looks a little like the Queensland Arrowroot we grow in the chook yard for them to nibble on.

Love your poor tomato :D)
We have a combine harvester if you want to borrow for your field
