My photo
Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

Carrot lucky dip

The Cook is using some of the larger carrots to make carrot and walnut loaves for the freezer.  It is The Gardener's job to collect some carrots, wash them and grate them (goodness knows why).

I love pulling the heirloom carrots because I never know what I am going to get.  There seems to be four colours, yellow, white, cream, and crimson with orange innards.  The orange carrots are not heirloom.

Orange, white and crimson
Creamy white
Orange and yellow.

They all TASTE like carrots!

  6. Like the colourful heirloom carrots. I have some seed-saver seeds of afghanisthan and dragon carrots that will be sowing this autumn. Hopefully will be colourful as yours.

  7. Oh they do look lovely Hazel, I keep meaning to order some exciting things from Digger's, but I get distracted by life and end up buying the $1 packets for sale over the road from my house.

  8. Diggers is a lovely name for a seed company.
I have tried to grow carrots once but the youngest pulled them out when they were really small and then said "look for mum dinner".
I think I will try to grow them again but when?

  10. Hazel, you forgot to mention that your Job Description also includes photographing the carrots - and you have done a good job of that too. Carrots can be just a boring old staple, but you make them look and sound exotic and wonderful.

  13. Gorgeous photos and carrots Hazel. Reminds me I must put in an order to Diggers. It's all in the soil density with carrots I think, yours must be good. Ours produces weird and wonderful shapes.
