I recently planted some strawberry runners. I have experimented by putting down an old woolen blanket as mulch. I just cut a cross where I wanted to plant. I don't know how it will go. Maybe it will freeze in the frost. Keep watching and I will let you know.
Frozen strawberries are always useful or perhaps you could instal an electric blanket!
