Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

Holidays

I was exercising my slightly refreshed gardening mojo today.
As I weeded, my train of thought went something like this:

The soil is good and full of worms.
Funny, not many snails.
I wonder where snails go in the winter?
I usually find lots up the stalks of the broad beans.
Bad gardener! I didn't plant any this year.
That's because I was overseas at broad bean planting time.
Gee, everybody I know is going overseas for holidays.
Phuket was a popular place a few years ago.

Then I discovered where snails go in the winter.

To Bucket -  (think about it)

What a shame, they had such a nasty, squishy accident on their holiday!
Hope their heirs can claim on the travel insurance.

  2. Love it Hazel! Snails are so resilient - during the drought years they were puny little things and now with an abundance of rain the are fat, slimy and well fed! HDW

  4. Lucky you found them when you did Hazel, imagine the damage they could have done...
I never had snails in my garden in Qld, do you think it's something I'll have to contend with when I eventually get another garden up and running in NSW, maybe it's too cold in Orange! Good to catch up with what you've been up to...I hope those cold, angry looking chooks have settled down now! You should have fed them the snails!! :)

    1. We have cold winters here, and the snails love it. Be prepared for the attack when you get that garden up and going!

  6. My girls just turn up their beaks. They may concede a little peck if I present them squashed. Maybe I should get some french chooks. LOL.
