My photo
Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

Fun guys in the valley

I have been compiling this post for a while,
hoping for the flush of mushrooms we had last year.
But alas, there have been no mushrooms...
although there may be yet.

Anyway, here are the photos
of some of the fun guys
in the Valley of One Thousand Hills.
Mick - Proprietor of the General Store - maker of my Friday lattes at the op--shop.
Ross - The School Principal and general good guy
Rhys - The chippie
Pete - The environmentalist and bush poet
and the only person in the world who
I would allow to call me, 'Lass'.

Aye!  It's a great place to live!

I am turning into a real Steptoe

Yesterday I wrote about sentimental treasures from my family home.
Today I went scrounging in a real rubbish pile at the local school.  They have had some building works done and there were many useful things to be gleaned.

Not pictured are three wooden boxes that are destined to be raised veggie beds...somewhere in the garden.  Some wood off-cuts for the fire, the pictured wooden thing, some star pickets, and bits of reo to grow things up.

That trailer I bought cheaply on ebay has paid for itself over and over!
The Cook is making quince jelly tonight and saving the pulp to make quince paste, or membrillo.
When we get the membrillo up, I will post some pictures and the recipe.

Free food

We had to go and see a man about a dog.  Well it wasn't really about a dog...that is just what my Dad used to say if I wanted to know where he was going.  If I asked him what he was doing, he always seemed to be making a wig wam for a goose's bridle.  I never did work that one out.

Anyway, we had to go and see some bloke on the Murrindindi Road, out the back of Yea about something.

On the way back we stopped by the river and after about half an hour, the Cook's left leg was wet up to the knee, I had a muddy bum, we were both mozzie bitten, had scratches up our arms, purple fingers and a container full of....

B L A C K B E R R I E S

Now I have to go away for a few days...I wonder if these will magically turn into jam while I am away?
