My photo
Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

A first on the first

I picked the first tomatoes yesterday.
They are were both from Grosse Lisse grafted plants.

Like all proud parents with a first-born,
I went a little crazy with the camera.
Mind you, my love for these two babies
didn't stop me from gobbling them down
in a sandwich!

  3. Ooh, they look lovely! We've been picking tomatoes for about a week now: Romas mostly with the odd Big Red every now and again. The romas have fruited well, the big red not so much. :( And they're not very big tomatoes this year, either. They're actually really quite small, but still packed full of flavour. Gosh, there's nothing much better than a homegrown tom!

  4. How great! There is nothing to compare with the tomatoes from the garden. Unfortunately up here the fruit fly agree, so we have had to do some sacrificing in the hope of more tomatoes to come.

She dosnt look gross, she looks red and shiny and totally edible....I hope her cousins that are hanging out on the bushes at my house are just as gross....

  7. Hazel, as chance would have it I also picked our first tomatoes yesterday. They were a lot smaller being Tommy Toes. Very tasty though. Nothing quite like home grown heirloom tomatoes.

  9. Ho Hum, the nearest I can get to home-grown tomatoes right now is to drool over the pictures in the catalogues. I have already bought seeds for about 20 different types of tomato, and it will be far too many, but it lets me dream a bit...

  10. My first slicing tomato (Rouge de Marmande) is sitting on the counter needing a couple more days ripening. Reading this I am looking forward to it even more. Yum!
