Have you been reading this blog long enough
to remember the birth of the herb potager?
It has been a year since the beginning of this project.
The herbs weathered the winter well
and have gone so spring crazy,
it is difficult to make out the structure!
Scarlet beans will be running up the arch soon.
What is that dog looking at?
Hope it isn't a Joe Blake, this close to the house.
Arrrgh! It is a giant, moth eaten, wild Araucana chick!
What are the best herbs for
putting in stuffing for roast chicken?
Sage - check
Parsley -check
Chives - check
Thyme - check
Oregano - check
Mmmm!
"Whaddya mean? Roasted, self infused, herbed rooster?
I thought you'd gone vegetarian!"
Don't worry, little chickie, I couldn't put an axe to you!
Way, too cute!
For me, toasted breadcrumbs, bacon, thyme (lots), parsley (lots) and rosemary, mmm, not at all vegetarian sorry! Gorgeous potager, no wonder he wanted to hang out in it.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading that long Ms Hazel! It looks fab.
ReplyDeleteCUTE!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour pottager looks amazing Hazel. So lush!
How are your little chicks going? I can't keep mine in the coop, the keep getting out even with clipped wings!
It is lush...just like me. LOL. My araucanas are only three weeks old and not allowed out without a chaperone. They are living in the shower recess with a light most of the time. If yours are getting out, it is a problem with the coop...not the chickies...stop blogging and get out there with the net, nails and hammer. :-)
ReplyDeleteWow your herbs look fantastic, & the pics of the moth eaten chick are great too!
ReplyDeleteThat last photo is particular is fabulous. Are scarlet beans the perenial ones? I'm wondering if they taste any good?
ReplyDeleteyour chooken has nice eyes
ReplyDeletelooking awesome! little chick as well! Green with envy!

Well, its actually the run they can get out of not their night coop. They have been snuggling with broody Dumpling on the warm nights that we have had in the coop box we built in the lockable aviary. I'm now extra vigilant getting them in before sun down and don't let them out until 8 in the morning, much to Julia's annoyance. But yes, they get out of the run and free range in the backyard... Not for long though!
ReplyDeleteThe potager certainly has fulfilled your aspiration. It looks so lush now. That arch will look good with beans climbing up ut. Why not add a few Nasturtiums to further boost the spectacle? And your potager defintely needs some Cavolo Nero now!
ReplyDeleteThey have such beautiful coloured eyes!
ReplyDeleteLove that last photo. So cute. Scarlet runner bean will look great on your arch.
ReplyDeleteYour herb potager is AMAZING!!!! How did you get it all to spread out like that, or are they just a lot of smaller plants all grown together? Gorgeous.
