My photo
Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

Signs of things to come.

A tiny sign of coloured lettuce scrawling patterns in the potager and heading to sandwiches and summer salads.

A leggy sign of delicious fish and dill dishes.

A cool sign of cucumbers clambering over the arch in the potager and tumbling into salads and tzartziki dip.

A strong sign of next Autumn and Winter's pumpkin soups, roasts, curried pea and pumpkin puffs, pumpkin scones, bean, roast pumpkin and feta salad and (my favourite comfort food) mashed pumpkin.

A sign of barbecued eggplant,  drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with a little salt and pepper, moussaka, and dips.

A slow growing sign of a cheerful summer display of petunias.

An orgiastic sign of an overabundance of shield bugs (I wish they would get a room)

A first sign of my favourite tomato, basil, and bocconcini salad, tomatoes eaten raw and cooked in every way we can think of and hopefully lots of sauces and frozen fruit to bring some sunshine to next Winter.

An aromatic sign of next Winter's  orange and almond cake and (of course) marmalade.

  3. Lots of nice goodies coming your way.

I have got some apple cucumbers, silver beet and broccoli sprouting. First time I have tried growing from seed and I am surprised at the success I have had! Going to grow things this way from now on.

    Have a great Sunday,

    Tania

  4. Hi Tania. This is the first time I have really grown most things from seed too. My tomatoes germinated so well I had to give lots away. But then tomatoes self germinate too don't they. At one stage I thinned them out and dropped some onto the ground...they are doing very well where they landed! Next year I will start a little earlier though.

  5. Love the way you've linked all your seedlings to their eventual use. Even tho it's before breakfast here as I write (on a snowy, below-zero day), my mouth is watering at the thought of the salads and vegetable dishes you describe!

  9. Hazel, your post reminds me why it is so nice to correspond with you and other friends in Oz -- your seasons are the mirror image of ours, and just when we are hunkering down for what looks like being another very cold Winter, your optimistic words give me faith that my turn will come round again before long.
