My photo
Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

It's a goat's life

"Hey Bubba, I like these roses.  We didn't get these at that other joint.  Delicious!"

'Mmmmm! These roses taste different.'
That's because they're geraniums, Sis!"
"Oh well, they are alright so long as you dodge the green bits."

"Why has she tied us up here.  Surely she doesn't expect us to eat grass?"
"Just pretend you like it then we can get stuck into that bush thing when she isn't looking."

"At least it has stopped making that awful noise and I think it's scared.  What sort of creature do you think it is, Bazza?  I'm not sure that it is friendly."

"Mmmm!  This is nice!"

"Yeah, it's nice, but do you realize that she expects us to eat all of this!"
"Tell her she's dreamin!"

'I like this play equipment!"
"Me too!"

"I wonder why we aren't allowed in there?"
"Yeah!  It would make a great goat shed."

"After you, Bubba"
"But do you think we should eat them?  I thought I heard Hazel say they were for someone coming to stay in the shed."
"Rubbish no human is gunna want to stay in this crumby shed.  They must be for us."
"I'm not sure, Bazza"
" Oh well, have it your way, but I am going to get stuck into this other bunch."

..................................

I have been warned.
Goats can be difficult.  Goats eat the garden.  Goats are escape artists.  Goats are possessive.   But at the moment it is just a new love affair.  These goats are so affectionate and bleat when they are left.  They love to be scratched and patted and nuzzle in to you.

When they poo, those little pellets drop like coins in a slot machine.  I can't wait to clean out the shed and put it on the compost!  They are learning to be tethered and began work on the creek bank today.  Although they didn't make much of an inroad,  I am confident that over time they will do the job.

I will be sure to let you know when the gloss wears off!

  2. Hmmm indeed. You're going through the "honeymoon period" I think. Let's hope it will be a lasting relationship! How long before you start investigating how to make goats' milk cheese?

  5. You are going to have the time of your life with them , Hazel. Even when they are being naughty , it is wonderful.
You are now a 'herd queen' ...

  7. Little cuties...

I think this is why we call our children "kids". If they are not just coming out of trouble they are just going into it!!!

Good luck, not sure if they ever grow up though like our "kids".

  8. Oh I think they just look adorable Hazel, I'm sure that the love affair will continue for a long time yet! I was going to tell you to get them out of my hotel suite, but they are so appealing that I'd like them in there with me!

  9. After a while they will follow you around like a dog.
They will eat almost anything (not bracken fern though) so hopefully you have lots of food for them. Good luck.
