My photo
Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

Bewdiful

Nectarine blossom.  I am happy with my new little camera (just a compact Cannon).  Good macro for a small, not too expensive model. I like the way the blossoms at the back are out of focus.

The crab apples are leafing up a little more each day.

Forgotten what this is called but lovely close up.
I like the way it mimics the clouds in the picture below.

Isn't Mother Nature clever.  These broad bean flowers have laid out the black door mat to attract the bees.  When they land their weight makes the front part of the flower move lower and the bees' backs brush against the top part where the pollen is.  It is amazing how two such discrete species have evolved to form a mutually beneficial relationship.

Today, I also noticed the symmetrical way the leaves on the broad beans grow.

This one is just a little weed but I think blue flowers are all special.

And finally, to prove that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder here is a close up of some of my compost about to put to use.  Yummy!

  1. Spring is a wonderful time of the year but this year is extraordinary after our years of drought.
I wonder if bees have colour sight?

  2. Apparently bees can recognise colours and have a good colour memory - they cannot distinguish between red and black (red appears black)
It is to the plants advantage that the bees return to the same species flowers repeatedly remembering that there is a good supply of nectar in a particular coloured flower.
By the way, hens can distinguish between all colours of the rainbow - clever chooks.
