My photo
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

If I had to rely on my
sustainable gardening
abilities to feed The Cook and me,
I would be either
a much slenderer version of myself,
or pushing up vegetables already.

Here is the veggie round-up...
for your amusement.

Item 1: Flowering broccoli
Pretty...and pretty useless.

Item 2: Rainbow Chard/Silver beet.
All I can say about this, is the chickens' eggs
have wonderful bright yellow yolks.

Item 3: Garlic
A much smaller bed than
last year...and it won't be ready for ages.

Item 4:
Some very depressed looking leeks.

Item 5: Shallots...
lots of shallots.

On the bright side, the girls are producing lots of googies
and I have my gardening mojo back.

Item 6: Proof of my dabbling in the veggie patch.

So after a bit of weeding, hoeing and ho, ho hoing,
I am hopeful that we may
have something to eat from the garden
in the not too distant future.

  1. Haven't checked you out for a while, always interesting. VML

  2. Well I'm not producing much at the moment either - but I do have loads and loads of lemons. Shallots are so yummy. I have often thought of growing them but haven't yet. Are they easy?

  3. Glad you have got your gardening mojo back and have soil under your fingernails! Was a great day for weeding, hoeing and ho ho hoing! HW

  4. Glad to hear you have your mojo back, which should result in more veggies to reap in the near future :)

  5. I go thru periods of feeling rather blah about the gardens, till another season hits and everything changes and all fresh n new again

  6. Me too....I cant get near my patch to weed or pick, because of all the rabbit proof fencing...I picked vegies today and it was a laugh because of the way I had to manouvre myself around the wire and gates etc...I did manage to pick though, which I am grateful for. I definately have no Winter gardening mojo this year...bring on Summer I say, Im hanging out for a tomato.

  7. I'm hearing you! Same here pretty much...sigh*

  8. Shallot Frittata sounds like the go!

  9. love those dirty nails, gave mine a good mud bath today too.

  10. You're not alone in not producing much at the moment Hazel and, to my eyes, you are doing well. Roll on spring!

  11. You and me both:) I'm terrible growing most many like to bolt when I'm not looking:)

  12. Looking forward to reading more posts from you about gardening now Hazel...
