Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

I am still here

Contrary to popular belief, the Hazel Dene blog is alive...if not actually thriving.  I could come up with lots of excuses, such as how busy I have been...which is true to some degree, but basically, I have just been a bad blogger.

Thank you to Phoebe, Mrs Bok and the other bloggers who asked after me.  I am fine.  I have just returned  from a quick trip to the U.S. ..which may go some way to explaining why I am writing this early in the morning...jet-lag.

I had baby sitting duties to perform.  In fact I was left in sole charge for four days while Mommy and Daddy went out of town.  Now there is a scary thought...Hazel in sole charge.  Well the kids and I both survived to tell the tale.

The garden slipped its autumn coat on while I was away,  the vegetable garden looks neglected and one of the hens has gone clucky and is sitting on eggs which is odd for this time of the year.  One of the Araucanas is missing and there haven't been any blue eggs for a while, so I am told.  I have my suspicions that they have joined forces and laid eggs somewhere with one of them on incubation duty. I would prefer this to the foxy type alternative.

It is production week at the magazine, hopefully I will fit in some gardening and blogging after that.

  5. Funny thing about blogging. I have grown to think of a couple of bloggers I read religiously as friends. And I found myself wondering and worrying about you Hazel! Glad to hear you're fine. And that you can be trusted with children!

  7. That's good news. Did you make your blog 'private' though, or was that some sort of crazy Blogger mishap?

    1. I think I know what happened. It was a Google thing! I use gmail, and although I have never had a problem traveling before, this time it noticed I was overseas and thought my gmail account had been hacked. It sent a verification code to my mobile phone (which was at home in Australia). I was reduced to setting up a new gmail...but I didn't have any of my contacts. gmail, blogger and goodness knows what are all linked...it probably froze my blog while I was away. Let me know if there are any ongoing problems.

  11. Yes, welcome back Hazel. Like everyone else, I thought maybe you'd run off and given up blogging and I missed your posts. Glad to hear it was for something as important as grandkids and that you're back safe and sound.
    Hope the chooks are OK.

  12. Hi Hazel, welcome back! Good to see you blogging and reading about your adventures. I do hope your araucanas are o.k. We had a brief flirtation with the blue egg layers but they were notorious for laying everywhere but in their nesting boxes and then not returning to their run with the other chickens. We think they were little snobs. So they were rehomed with a friend who has a much smaller property and they are fine.

  15. Hi Hazel; I'm glad you are back with us again. I missed your keen sense of humour and the zany goings-on that so often grace the pages of your blog.
Since you went off on your baby-sitting duty we have had another granddaughter too, so I know that family has to take priority over blogging!

  17. We need to know where you're going and what time you'll be back or we'll worry. ha. That sounds so much like my dad and I swore I'd never say that when I was a kid.

Glad you're trip went well. What part of the USA did you visit? We are 30 minutes north of the Montana border in Canada.

    1. Doug, I promise, I will forewarn you, next time I leave the country! My little American family are in Indianapolis IN. Not very exciting from a tourist point of view...at least not after about 10 visits! LOL. But...they may be moving to Boston. This little jetsetting baby sitter is hoping the move comes off...lots to do on the east coast!
