My photo
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

Hand luggage? Check!

My airfare to the States is the cheapest one
my son could find.
The one disadvantage, is that it goes via
Upper Kombuckta West.

Well, via Sydney, San Francisco, Chicago and then to Indiana.
It is only about 20 hours flying,
but I ended up traveling for about 42 hours:
Monday 7.30 am to Wednesday 1.30 am (Melbourne time).

That was a little more than expected
because I missed a connection because of a late plane.
So five of those hours were
in a nice hotel bed in Chicago.

I quite like the actual traveling.
I even quite like the food...sad, I know.

I know it isn't good for the planet, but if I didn't fly,
I would never see my son and his family.
I do not fly for any other reason.

I have learned to take one smallish bag on the plane.
One that will fit beneath the seat in front.
That way I have access to it at all times.

The atmosphere in the plane is very drying.
So here is my survival kit.
Eye drops (just liquid tears), spritzer to spray my face, lip balm, and saline nasal spray, some moisturizers, toothbrush and small toothpaste, ear plugs, neck pillow...and some clean knickers.

Well, I  am off to play with the grandchildren.

  1. Glad to know you are safely "there" Hazel, I hope your jet lag isn't too bad.

  2. Geez! 40+ hours! That's horrendous! Glad you're there safe! Have fun!!!

  3. Ooooooooo!! I am JEALOUS!

And I LOVE airplane food... all covered over, it's the most fabulous surprise.

  4. Hope you have a great time and spoil your grandchildren rotten, safe trip home.

  5. Can't understand this "I love airline food" business... The only decent airline food I have ever had was in India, where it was all vegetarian, and also interesting and delicious.
Hope you don't suffer too much from jet-lag after your marathon journey. I'd need to sleep for 42 hours if I had travelled for 42.

  6. Glad to know you're coping well with the journey. Have a fab time!
