My photo
Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

Stressville!

Every Southern Hemisphere blog I read
is raving on about the seeds they have already planted!
Go on...ask me how many I have in.

No, don't ask me!

I can't drag myself away from building
the Outdoor Kitchen!

The Cook can't understand my dilema
and wonders why I don't just plant my seeds.

Because my head is full of the kitchen.
I think about it going to sleep.
I dream about it.
It is the first thing I think of in the morning.
I sit with my breakfast and
look out of the window at it.

I plan what to do, how to do it
and what order to do it in.

I photograph it.
I talk about it.
I admire it.
I blog about it.

I resist leaving the property...
even to do the most important things
because I don't want to stop!

On Tuesday, the Cook dragged me
screaming and kicking to visit her mother
and to go to a market.

The pain!

So, I succumbed and bought
a mini greenhouse
as suggested by Farmgirl
and endorsed by Veggigobbler.

I even put it together yesterday...
but look!

You will note, it is still empty,
and I have promised three other people
that I will grow seedlings for them.

Maybe I will plant
some today.

  1. If it makes you feel any better, I've not planted any either! I'm a bit slow this year. I'm going to invest in a portable greenhouse on Friday and start planting, since I have the day off work, and I'll feel guilty if I don't put it to good use by doing something garden-related.

  2. I don't think we are slow to have not planted anything yet!! The others are too eager! I still have peas and broad beans in that haven’t finished growing! Neither has the broccoli!!! Oh vegetables. Oh how you mock me with your imprecise fruiting times and delayed growing periods!

Great seedling house by the way.

  3. The shame of it all. Mines empty too, but I have put soil in my seed trays, little one wants to help but I'd rather do the little seeds on my own. Feeling way behind the eight ball. Cuttings I want to do and a apple graft needing attention. Ah those to do lists!

  8. I'm only so keen because I'm sure I planted some things, like pumpkins and capsicum, way too late last year! So I'm in a rush to get everything in the ground this time.
Maybe you need to devote a morning or afternoon to seed sowing, and the rest of the day to the ODK?

  9. STRESS! indeed. I haven't sown any seeds yet. I haven't even looked at my seeds or thought about what or how much to sow.

    Enjoy your kitchen!
Worst case scenario - you BUY (gasp) seedlings to plant. It can be done. :)

  10. Ha! Well I'm a bit obsessive like you. When I've got a project I just want to keep on doing it until it's done. And everything else has to wait. But like hearts-in-asia said I too waited too late to plant my seeds last year. Also, I am impatient and easily excited.

  11. Timing the planting of seeds is always difficult. As you know the traditional planting time in our area is the first week in November (10 weeks away)
You could buy a couple of early tomato seedlings to tide you over.
If you plant out your seedlings too soon in the season they will bolt (not before the 1st October according to a local veggie guru)

  12. Not to worry Hazel, I haven't either, look how many of us there are! But I am going to the produce markets in the morning and my seedling man will be there.

  13. Still haven't planted anything here yet. There is still a high risk of frost and snow is forecast tonight in the highlands. It will be another month here. Oh well, I still have time to plan.

  14. HAZEL. THIS IS YOUR PLANTING GOD SPEAKING. IN THE MORNING YOU WILL ARISE AND YOU WILL PLANT YOUR SEEDS. YOU WILL PLANT FOR YOUR FRIENDS AND YOU WILL PLANT FOR YOUR VISITORS. YOU WILL PLANT THINGS FOR THE COOK TO MAKE JAM WITH AND THINGS TO TOP PAVLOVAS TO SEND AROUND THE COUNTRY. YOU WILL PLANT EXTRA IN CASE OF UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES AND YOU WILL PLANT ME A TITHE OF 10 PERCENT OF YOUR PLANTINGS. I AM NOT ENTIRELY SURE HOW THAT WORKS, BUT YOU WILL DO IT.

HEAR MY O HAZEL AND SURRENDER TO MY WILL. OR LEST THEE BE RENT ASUNDER BY MY ANGER. I WILL VISIT UPON THEE A PLAGUE OF CABBAGE MOTHS IF THOU DOES NOT PLEASETH ME.

  16. Me too, me too. In fact I'm such a nuffy on the whole planting from seeds thing I didn't even realise I should be planting already. Usually I just throw seeds at the ground whenever the mood strikes me and then buy seedlings when things don't work out. Actually I have had some recent results with seeds, but my broad beans are only just beaning now, my broccoli is not quite ready to pick, I still have turnips getting bigger and my silverbeet is continuing to flourish. Good thing I've got my big new bed to plant out for summer veg or I'd have nowhere to plant even if I was organised.

  17. Oh my goodness Hazel, I've just had fun reading through all the above comments... come on woman, you'd better pop some seeds in the ground - and quicksmart about it :D)

Love the dramatic photo for your header - even if the wearer of those quills is no longer with us.
