My photo
Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

Stairway to Heaven

You may think you have seen this before.
Yes, it is the chicken coop on the right and, to the left, the goat shed.
But look a little closer...

Who could that be on top of the chook shed?

"Bazza", I said, "You can't hide behind those roses.  I can see you.
Get down from there, this instant!"

His response to this was a clear, "NO!"  Yep, there he is on the roof of the goat shed...but wait there is more!

Onto the pump shed roof, across to the carport and...
onto the house.

At this point The Cook came running out asking, "Who's that trip trapping over the roof?"

The hilarity of the situation disappeared when he ventured onto the Laserlite roof.
It bent and buckled and creaked and groaned!
Was he planning to jump off?
This escapade was beginning to look like a trip up the stairway to Heaven...literally!

The Cook saved the day with some bread thrown on the pump shed roof.
His natural greed induced him to leap back from the carport roof onto the pump shed roof...

..from there onto the goat shed roof...and then one amazing leap to the ground.

Now I know many of you warned what trouble goats could be, but not one of you mentioned the likelihood of them climbing onto the roof of the house.

You could have told me!

Footnote:  The launching pad he used to scale the chook shed has been removed.

  1. I'm glad that cook came to save the day as Hazel was obviously too busy being reporter for her blog (and glad that she was)! Hilarious story and thanks for the laugh.

  2. *LOL*
Thank you for the morning laugh!
We had a sheep like that - always up to the most unbelievable mischief. Just when you thought you'd seen it all - he'd trump the last escapade. :)

  3. Oh Hazel! Another giggle for the day, thank you! You really do need a goaty alcatraz to keep your little buddies in line. I am beginning to have second thoughts about goats on my little farm, despite the fact that I love goat cheese!

  5. Climb?? They're known for it, did you see that post of mine on the dog blog of the goats on the dam wall in China?? They will keep you on your toes trying to stay just that one little step ahead. It makes the sight of a goose landing on the roof look very tame.Have fun!

  6. I remember when I was in Greece a couple of years ago, on a very small rocky island, there were hundreds of goats just hanging around on the most precarious of ledges, as high as they could go!

I wonder of your goats have some wild Greek Mountain Goat blood in them?

  12. That looks like so much fun! I don't want to say it, but he's discovered a new playground now and I can see many more attempts to get back up there in the future. :p

  13. Fantastic photos of Bazza. If they weren't your photos Hazel I would imagine that they were contrived shots with a trail of bread up to the roof rather than a trail of bread off the roof! Ingenious Cook!

  17. There's never a dull moment in the Dene property is there??? I love the "reportage" style of the photo sequence. You hardly need to write any words, because the photos spell out the story so clearly.
I'm envious of the cloudless blue sky too!
