My photo
Australia
I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

2011

Happy New Year Everyone.  As I post this, the calendar has already changed in Australia and I am sure, going by what I observed up at the local pub last night, that many are nursing hangovers this morning.  Mark and my other blog friends from the U.K. are just ushering in the new year while my readers from the U.S. including my little family in Indiana are still waiting for midnight.  It is a strange and wonderful world we live in.

And my wishes for us all in 2011?
I hope we can all be like this tree fern.
Lush and green and beautiful.
But the tree fern is also a tough character,
It rebounds from adversity with gusto.
Burn it in bushfires,
Dig it up,
Cut it in half with a chain saw,
Give it no water,
Leave it laying on its side,
Give it up for dead.
Then plant it, water it and voila,
It will unfurl its fronds and start all over again.

May 2011 be the most wonderful year ever...
but if it isn't,
May you have the resilience a tree fern.

It's severely cold in Japan but I am enjoying drinking sake to warm myself up.

  6. Hi Hazel; Happy New Year from a grey and dreary UK! I have a couple of points for you today: first - how come you have changed your blog header picture to show us a line-up of chicken's bums??? Second - are you admitting publicly that you committed all those atrocities on your tree-fern?
On a more complimentary note: the photo of the tree-fern is lovely. Did you have to stand on a ladder to take it? :)

  7. Oh Hazel, how nice to see you! I love the facelift, haven't you been hard at work!

I feel like I've already been a tree fern in this life, this year I'd like to be like something a little easier... I'm thinking pampered handbag pooch!

Happy New Year you gorgeous young thing!

  9. Than kyou to every one for the lovely comments. Mark I am going to keep changing the photo in the title...if you find this one offensive just wait to see what else comes up. LOL. The tree fern is short...no ladder required.

Ali, you can be my handbag pooch if you like. I do hope this year is a truly auspicious one for you and the boys for all the right reason.
