Yay! My strawberries are ripening.
Now I don't wish to draw too much attention to my poor strawberries' defomities however they are a bit mishapen. They taste wonderful but I would rather they were 'normal'.
Does anyone out there know what ails them? Can they be cured?
Could it be the shield bugs sucking on them when they were tiny?
'Fraid I can't help you on this Hazel. I did try growing strawberries a few years ago, but the squirrels devastated them and I gave up.
ReplyDeleteI can't focus on the strawberries, I can't believe I was rude to your sister! I thought she was an internet baddie, attacking your blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Hazel's sister!
Hazel I suspect that in your valley they are not getting enough heat/sun. I find that some of my strawberries look like yours when they ripen late in the season.
ReplyDeleteI have been picking strawberries since October but I grow mine in our old bath and in the sunniest part of the garden.
My biggest problem is the millipedes they just love my strawberries. I just have to be quicker than them!
I don't know, but at least they taste good. Strawberries are very 'sensitive', I find.
ReplyDeleteWho cares how they look, so long as they taste good! Hubbie tried experimenting with a mixed bed, so our poor strawberries got crowded out by potatoes and squash. Oh well, just have to try again next season
