I ran away from teaching to the country to grow veggies. There are also some chooks and a pair of troublesome goats who were so much trouble they had to go! My simple green life isn't always as simple or as green as I'd like...but I keep trying!

Promises

It promises to be a good year for nectarines...

 ... and loquats...

... and raspberries...

...and strawberries...

... and it promises to be a good year for something else...

Something else that is very, very exciting.
But I am not telling you what it is.  You can guess if you like, but I doubt you will guess correctly!

Here is a hint.  It has to do with this rather ramshackle wood shed tucked behind the main rain tank and next to the chook house.

It has a lot of wood left from the last owners.   It is soft wood and no good for burning in the wood heater.  I am not sure what to do with it yet

...but that's not the surprise.

Look at the tin on the roof...the corrugations run the wrong way.

I love this block of wood and metal strapping, holding it together.
I think that is what you call 'bush carpentry'.

Although needing repairs, it is quite sturdy despite its appearance.  We don't really need a wood shed as we keep green wood out in the elements to season it for the fire.  In the winter we keep the dry wood we are burning stacked under the carport, next to the front door.  In Summer there is no need to do this which alleviates the fire danger risk of stacking it against the house.

What you need to know is that I am going to re-purpose the shed.  But why, and what for?

I promise you will be surprised.

  1. I believe good harvests of your fruits are promised. But how about your shed..?
    Uhhh....let me think.

  2. Having thought about this, I reckon you must be going to make it into a mushroom-growing shed. A potting-shed wouldn't be a surprise. Nor would a tool-shed. Maybe an aviary?
